On September 29, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Bruneian Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan bin Pehin Yusof at the latter's request.
Wang Yi said, tomorrow marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brunei. Over the past 30 years, China-Brunei relations have made considerable progress, setting a good example for countries to treat each other as equals, live in harmony and achieve mutual benefit irregardless of size. The two countries have joined hands and helped each other to fight the pandemic, demonstrating the spirit of friendship between neighbors. China is ready to work with Brunei to push for new progress in the 30-year-old China-Brunei relations and bring more benefits to the two peoples.
Wang Yi said, this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). China highly appreciates Brunei's fruitful work since its assumption of the rotating presidency of ASEAN. China hopes that Brunei will continue to play the constructive role of the presidency and push China-ASEAN relations to a new level.
Erywan said, Brunei and China enjoy long-term friendship. The two countries are good friends and true friends. Brunei sincerely appreciates China for its strong support for Brunei's fight against the pandemic. Brunei attaches great importance to bilateral relations and looks forward to working with China to expand mutually beneficial cooperation and achieve common prosperity. Brunei will continue to play its role as the rotating presidency of ASEAN and make greater contributions to enhancing mutual trust between ASEAN and China and promoting regional peace and development.
The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on non-proliferation and other international and regional issues of common concern.
