Hon. Joseph Mucheru, Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs,
Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi, Vice Chancellor, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology,
Dear Participants of the Huawei Seeds for the Future Program,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It's a pleasure to join you virtually today in the Opening Ceremony of 2020 Huawei Seeds for the Future Program . First of all, I'd like to express my warm congratulations to all the participants of this commendable CSR program sponsored by Huawei.
The digital economy is a new economic field which enjoys rapid development and active innovation. It plays an indispensable role in achieving sustainable economic growth. Around the world, the number of mobile Internet users has reached 3.5 billion and the digital economy now takes up more than 15 percent of the global GDP.
China places high importance on the development of digital economy and earnestly promotes international cooperation in this area. Last week, an International Seminar on Global Digital Governance under the theme "Seizing Digital Opportunities for Cooperation and Development" was held in Beijing. At the high-level meeting, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a keynote speech titled Upholding Multilateralism, Fairness and Justice and Promote Mutually Beneficial Cooperation and proposed a Global Initiative on Data Security on behalf of the Chinese Government. We look forward to the participation in this Global Initiative of national governments, international organizations and all other stakeholders. We welcome all the countries to step up communication and coordination, build up mutual trust and deepen cooperation with one another and build a community with a shared future in the digital world.
China and Kenya share a profound tradition of friendship. Our fruitful and wide-ranging practical cooperation stands out in china-Africa cooperation. Our cooperation and mutual assistance in the fight against COVID-19 represents a prime example of solidarity in the face of a disease. China highly values its comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership with Kenya. No matter what stage of development China reaches, no matter how the international landscape may evolve, China shall never waver in its determination to pursue greater solidarity and cooperation with Kenya. China will work with Kenya to take forward Belt and Road cooperation and the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation so as to deliver greater benefits to the people of both countries.
China remains committed to enhancing exchanges and cooperation between competent authorities of China and Kenya, sharing good practice in each other's ICT development, seizing the opportunity presented by the digital economy, encouraging companies to carry out cooperation in ICT infrastructure, the internet and the digital economy, and working together to narrow the digital divide and promote the building of an information society in Kenya and China.
I wish the 2020 Huawei Seeds for the Future Program full success.
